In this series, we will get to know our board a bit better. What better place to start than with the woman who started a shorter version of this same series last summer on our Facebook account: Alexis Furseth, our PR and Marketing director. With a lot of our board members, you'll notice that they've been involved in the performing or designing aspect of our productions in the past or concurrently with their board position. That's because our board members are made up of our VFR Family. Hello! My name is Alexis Furseth. I'm the Director Of Public Relations and Marketing, and this will be my second year working with VFR. My short term goal is to grow our follower base on all three of our social media platforms (voicesfoundrep on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter!). By doing so, I hope to encourage larger audiences for performances and events; ensuring the continued financial and professional success of Voices Found. I started acting in fifth grade, and have been utterly enthralled and deeply passionate in regards to all things theatre ever since. The sense of community and comradery is unparalleled to anything I’ve ever experienced. As Thomas Merton says, “art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.” Theatre is messy. Complex. Heart breaking. Gut wrenching. Honest. It reflects life and helps us feel not so alone. How could I not want to be a part of that? In five years, it would be incredible to be a fully functioning theatre company. To have our own space, and be able to be a common household name. To be in the same league as the Rep or Skylight would just be an absolute dream and honor. I love my position with VFR, and I want nothing more than for it to be my full time job and focus. Currently, my sight is set on our upcoming auditions and production of Titus Andronicus. It’s a massive undertaking, and I can’t wait to see our company meet the demands head first and produce an incredible show.
Other fun facts? My favorite food is mac n cheese, I drive a wonderful albeit richety old van named Suzanne, and I am simultaneously a giant child and a cranky old man at heart. Also, moving to Milwaukee has so far been one of the best decision of my entire life. The passion for theatre, the sense of family, and the pure, unrequited talent I’ve seen at VFR is something truly special. The individuals in our company are just brilliant. I’m constantly learning and growing in this company, and I think that’s a huge component to our success thus far. I look forward to growing our family of artists, and watching this company prosper for years to come.
